Introduction
I am Hillary and this is my professional portfolio. I am at Chico State University studying to be an elementary school education specialist and my hope is that through this site you will learn a little more about me and my educational philosophies. I would also like this site to be a resource for educators and parents of children with special needs by providing access to a variety of informational websites.
My School
I am currently in my Fourth year at Chico State University. I was a part of the ITEC program in my undergraduate studies here. ITEC is a unique program that allowed me to graduate with a liberal studies degree and a minor in special education in three short years. I worked through this program with 24 other liberal studies majors and we have created a strong support system for each other. As a part of ITEC, I completed many hours of volunteering in elementary school classrooms. I love the experiences I have had working in those classrooms and they have really helped me grow as a future educator. I graduated last May with honors in education. I am currently a part of the concurrent credential program. This program allows me to receive my multiple subject and education specialist credentials in one year. I have completed student teaching in a general education placement and am currently student teaching in a resource program. I look forward to continuing this journey learning and eventually, teaching.

My Student Teaching
Sierra View: I started my student teaching in a general education classroom in Chico. I was teaching in a 6th grade classroom at Sierra View Elementary School. During my student teaching experience, I had the opportunity to obtain my emergency substitute credential. This allowed me to act as the substitute teacher when my cooperating teacher was absent. This was a great experience and allowed me to grow tremendously in my teaching.
Ophir: My second student teaching placement has been at Ophir Elementary School in Oroville. I am currently finishing up my student teaching experience at this placement. I have had the pleasure to be a part of the resource program at Ophir and am completing my student teaching in that classroom. This experience has been really beneficial for me as I have had the opportunity to work with students of diverse learning needs. I have also been able to work actively with student IEPs and participate in IEP meeting and student study teams. I have also had the opportunity to administer achievement tests such as the WIAT.
